How to improve your chances of getting a job?

(I) Things to consider before you apply for a job:

1. Make sure you understand what the role involves. If it’s possible, speak to a representative from the company.

2. Prepare your CV – make sure all of your details are correct and up to date. Try to get someone else to look at it and get their opinion. This will have a huge impact on how the employer will perceive you.

3. Use the Internet as a resource for:
− Company information.
− Information about the department/group.
− Samples of documents or other tools you might be involved with if you get the job.


(II) Before the interview:
• Present well – first impressions count, so make sure you give it your best shot.
• Be on time – very important! If you can’t make it on time, call the company or person
you are meeting and let them know.
• Be prepared – know your CV inside out, and bring it with you. Is there anything else
you need to bring?
• Samples of work are always the best way to show off what you know.
Bring samples whether or not you’re asked to do so.
• Turn off mobile phones, alarms, organizers/PDAs and so on.

(III) At the interview
• Try to relax – most employers are not out to get you. Try to look enthusiastic about the interview – people that give off negative vibes in an interview often get it back!
• Answer the questions! Don’t talk about friends, pets and other non-related facts –
unless asked.
• Be direct and precise with your answers. This may mean that you’ll have to have
practice questions prepared before the interview (that’s why we’re here – right?)
• Show that you’re an all-rounder.
• Think of scenarios before the interview that you could bring along with you. Rehearse these to the nth detail – and know what you want to say.


(IV) Answering questions
• Know what you want to say.
• Keep it simple.
• Have some order.
• Ask for pen and paper for these types of questions, if you have to – map it out!

(V) At the end of the interview:
• ASK QUESTIONS! Almost anything goes!
• Tools, technology, workspace, work hours
• Advancement, benefits and HR related issues
• Try to be a bit different.
• If possible, do some research on the company prior to the interview, and know what
you want to ask. Come prepared – showing a list of questions is not necessarily a bad
thing!

Rocket Singh: "Risk toh Spiderman ko bhi lena padta hai"

Hi frnds, Welcome back you all to Inmantec. Well frnds, choosing any specialization in MBA/PGDM, i hope approx. 90% of students would start their career in sales. Bcoz Sales is a place where you learn from the scratch and have experience at the root-level. Isn't it?

When you get promotion, you would get subordinates in your team to generate Business lead. At that point of time bcoz of previous experience you would lead them in more better manner and nobody would cheat you.


So, finally moral of the story is that recently on 11th Dec a new movie has been launched: "Rocket Singh - (Salesman of the Year)". The moto to discuss about this movie is that i found only this movie talking some sense on reality-ground after Swadesh. No hype, no science fiction, no fantasy. Just a plain and inspirational movie for today's young generation, who are about to start their career.

The movie points out following things:
1. What are the problems faced by a new Sales-Trainee?
2. How to deal with corporate people(clients) to generate business?
3. How to survive into today's neck-cut competition?
4. How to achieve your own ambitions?
5. How to deal with upper/middle/lower level politics in company?

The movie states, “Risk toh Spiderman ko bhi lena padta hai, main toh phir bhi Salesman hoon” (Even Spiderman has to take risk, I am just a Salesman).
Rocket Singh is quite relatable in recent times. Half the day one gets uncalled-for calls from salesmen wanting to sell us products from the world. And in the other half almost every employee in any organization dreams of starting his own company like his workplace. Rocket Singh combines these common-man conflicts to come up with a compelling narrative.

So, my suggestion is that everybody who read this blog-post please watch this movie at any cost and also suggest others. Its a fully Paisa-wasool movie, where you gain a lot for your career and loss nothing.

Dubai : Abu Dhabi gives $10 billion bailout

Any bubble that inflates beyond logic got to burst...it was true in US and now at Dubai... one need not be scientist to understand that.
The same logic extends to our behavioural ego stock that we inventory and keep inflating... it too burst but at the time we never expected it... GOT IT, I HOPE !!!!!!!!

Dubai World is not a bubble or not a big crisis as it has been propelled by global media,because it is not related with any default, bankruptcy,or any big failure but it is mere effect of Global slowdown. It happens because of inadequate sale of property by the company in this recessionary arena So, they have deffered there debt payment by six month.
Dubai World is the professionaly run company and has the previlage of being a Government supported company so no need to be panic. It is the fear of the toe current of slowdown which forced the panic in the world-economy and sharemarket globally correted. for two consicuitive days and then rebounded sharply to their previous level.
Finally, Dubai : Abu Dhabi gives $10 billion bailout: Abu Dhabi stepped in to help fellow United Arab Emirates member Dubai with a $10 billion injection, of which $4.1 billion was allocated to troubled state-owned conglomerate Dubai World to pay immediate obligations.

Precautions is better than cure to beat Swine Flu. (Read and follow it carefully)

Today it has been seen that lot of students were taking it as a fun and willingly Sneezing or blowing-air from mouth onto others.
Pls, friends don't do these kiddish activities. It can be harmful for everybody including you.
Symptoms-Precautions-Treatment

1. How do people become infected with influenza A (H1N1)?
Outbreaks in humans are now occurring from human-to-human transmission. When infected people cough or sneeze, infected droplets get on their hands, drop onto surfaces, or are dispersed into the air. Another person can breathe in contaminated air, or touch infected hands or surfaces, and be exposed.

2. What are the signs and symptoms of infection?
Early signs of influenza A (H1N1) are flu-like, including fever, cough, headache, muscle and joint pain, sore throat and runny nose, and sometimes vomiting or diarrhoea. Like seasonal flu, swine flu may cause a worsening of underlying chronic medical conditions.

3. What can I do to protect myself from getting sick?
Currently available seasonal influenza vaccine does not protect against H1N1 flu. There are everyday actions that can help prevent the spread of germs that cause respiratory illnesses like influenza. Take these everyday steps to protect your health:

DOs:

* Wash your hands
* Avoid crowded places
* Stay more than an arm's length from persons afflicted with flu
* Get plenty of sleep
* Drink plenty of water and eat nutritious food
* Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze.
* Try to avoid close contact with people having respiratory illness.
* If one gets sick with influenza, one must stay at home, away from work or school and limit contact with others to keep from infecting them.
* If one is having any respiratory distress, one should report to a nearby hospital.


DO NOTs:

* Shake hands or hug in greeting
* Spit in public
* Take medicines without consulting a physician.

Note: Friends first its for your life only, then for others. So take precaution.

Swine flu threatens to derail businesses

NEW DELHI: A second wave of H1N1 infections is threatening to throw businesses
out of gear, with the deadly flu reaching epidemic proportions
in the last few days.

A single confirmed case could result in the entire office being shut down as a precuationary measure as happened in the case of a job portal on November 28 after a company executive and family members of two other executives tested positive for Swine Flu.

According to government data, 19,947 people have been confirmed positive with Swine Flu that has caused 627 deaths in the country till December 7. Of the 315 confirmed cases, 167 were in New Delhi.

About 800 people work in the Delhi office of Info Edge, which has five divisions including. “We have taken all possible precautions. We have put message boards to make people aware of the disease and are not taking any chances on this,” says Sanjeev Bikhchandani, co-founder and CEO of Info Edge.

In Delhi, some schools including some branches of Amity International School and Delhi Public School (DPS) and two playschools have decided to close for 3-4 days after a couple of students were tested positive for H1N1. However, doctors say such reactions are uncalled for at the moment.

“We expect more cases of Swine Flu in winter. H1N1 is a respiratory tract infection, which is common during winters. It is not that the virus is more potent, because the death toll has not risen,” said Dr Suranjit Chaterjee, senior consultant at Apollo Hospitals, Delhi. Shutting down offices is an overreaction, he said.

Meanwhile, the government is procuring four million shots of swine flu vaccine. “We will procure the vaccine through a tender and global pharma companies GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), Novartis and Sanofi Aventis have expressed their willingness to supply the vaccine,” said Vineet Choudhary, joint secretary at the health ministry.

NTPC Electron Quiz- 09Dec Experience

The NTPC Electron Quiz is one of the great opportunity to show their Quizing skill for the B-school and E-school students of NCR region. This is an annual event which has been conducted since 2005. The Quiz 2009 was basically set to be focus on business, however there was no business and GK involved there. The participants have faced tremendous disatisfaction on the standard of questions that have been selected by the Quiz-Master. It was also noticed on the score board where hardly the best team of Quiz has openned there account in second round and one team who has opened their account in last round. It was not a knowledge game but just a luck game.

There were 6 rounds Quiz at NTPC-Electron after the written exam where 52 teams were participated from NCR region for B-school & E-school(Engineering Colleges)

Reason behind Crisis: Although the scale of Dubai’s debts is comparatively modest at $80 billion (£48 billion), the uncertainty spooked the markets, with no one sure who its creditors are. Several banks rushed out statements to reassure investors that their exposure was small.
The FTSE 100 plunged by 171 points to 5,194 — its biggest one-day fall in eight months in one of the most jittery days in the financial markets since the depths of the banking crisis.
Dubai World, the state-owned corporation that began the panic on Wednesday by demanding a standstill on its interest payments, worsened the mood when it postponed a teleconference for its bond holders, saying the phone lines were overwhelmed.
Dubai World has liabilities of £36 billion, about three quarters of Dubai’s total state debt. Its subsidiary Nakheel built The Palm Islands development, but the property bubble in the emirate burst a year ago, leaving buildings unfinished, debts unpaid and paper fortunes erased.

Web portal: a site that provides a starting point or a gateway to other resources on the Internet or an intranet.

A portal is generally a vehicle by which to gain access to a multitude of 'services'. A web site is a destination in itself. 

Difference b/w WEBPORTAL & WEBSITE
Web site: A website (or Web site) is a collection of web pages. It contains info about the particular company which as hosted it.

For eg: NDTV.com, will contain info about latest news, other program info etc; all company sites comes under this.

Web portal: Web portal is also a website that offers a broad array of resources and services, such as e-mail, forums, search engines, and on-line shopping malls etc; etc;

Just see the meaning of the word "Portal". It means "door" or "gateway" or "Entrance".

A Web portal is nothing special. Its is just a website, but is used as a entry point.


Eg: Consider yahoo - you have yahoo mail, answers, chat, online shopping and so many things .. news etc; so it is something that offers various services which a company website may not offer.

Web Portal

              A web portal, also known as a links page, presents information from diverse sources in a unified way. Apart from the standard search engine feature, web portals offer other services such as e-mail, news, stock prices, information, databases and entertainment. Portals provide a way for enterprises to provide a consistent look and feel with access control and procedures for multiple applications and databases, which otherwise would have been different entities altogether. Examples of public web portals are MSNBC, Yahoo!, AOL, iGoogle and Netvibes.

Types of portals:
Horizontal vs. vertical portal

Two broad categorizations of portals are horizontal portals, which cover many areas, and vertical portals, which are focused on one functional area. Another definition for a horizontal portal is, that it is used as a platform to several companies in the same economic sector or to the same type of manufacturers or distributors. A vertical portal consequently is a specialized entry point to a specific market or industry niche, subject area, or interest, also called vortal.

Personal portals
A personal portal is a site on the World Wide Web that typically provides personalized capabilities to its visitors, providing a pathway to other content. It is designed to use distributed applications, different numbers and types of middleware and hardware to provide services from a number of different sources.

Regional web portals
Along with the development and success of international personal portals such as Yahoo!, regional variants have also sprung up.

Government web portals
At the end of the dot-com boom in the 1990s, many governments had already committed to creating portal sites for their citizens.

Corporate web portals
Corporate intranets became common during the 1990s. As intranets grew in size and complexity, webmasters were faced with increasing content and user management challenges. A consolidated view of company information was judged insufficient; users wanted personalization and customization. Webmasters, if skilled enough, were able to offer some capabilities, but for the most part ended up driving users away from using the intranet.

Hosted web portals
As corporate portals gained popularity a number of companies began offering them as a hosted service. The hosted portal market fundamentally changed the composition of portals.  Hosted portals automatically personalize the content generated from their modules to provide a personalized experience to their users. In this regard they have remaind true to the original goals of the earlier corporate web portals.


Domain-specific portals
A number of portals have come about that are specific to the particular domain, offering access to related companies and services, a prime example of this trend would be the growth in property portals that give access to services such as estate agents, removal firm, and solicitors that offer conveyancing. Along the same lines, industry-specific news and information portals have appeared, such as the clinical trials specific portal: IFPMA Clinical Trials Portal.

              Microblogging is a form of multimedia blogging that allows users to send brief text updates or micromedia such as photos or audio clips and publish them, either to be viewed by anyone or by a restricted group which can be chosen by the user. These messages can be submitted by a variety of means, including text messaging, instant messaging, E-mail, digital audio or the web.

Example:By 2006 and 2007, the term microblog came into greater usage for such services provided by Tumblr and Twitter. In May 2007, 111 microblogging sites were counted internationally.[2] Among the most notable services are Twitter, Tumblr, Plurk, Emote.in, Squeelr, Beeing, Jaiku and identi.ca.

Twitter is a free social networking and micro-blogging service that enables its users to send and read messages known as tweets. Tweets are text-based posts of up to 140 characters displayed on the author's profile page and delivered to the author's subscribers who are known as followers.
