BURJ KHALIFA Dubai : Tallest Tower in the World

Dubai ruler Sheikh Mohamed Monday announced that the world's tallest tower Burj Dubai will be renamed Burj Khalifa after the president of the United Arab Emirates.

Burj Khalifa (Arabic: برج خليفة‎"Khalifa Tower"), formerly known as Burj Dubai, is a skyscraper in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, and the tallest man-made structure ever built, at 828 m (2,717 ft).

Construction began on 21 September 2004, with the exterior of the structure completed on 1 October 2009. The building officially opened on 4 January 2010. The building is part of the 2 km2 (490-acre) flagship development called Downtown Burj Khalifa at the "First Interchange" along Sheikh Zayed Road, near Dubai's main business district.
The total cost for the Burj Khalifa project was about US$1.5 billion; and for the entire new "Downtown Dubai", US$20 billion.

The tower's architecture and engineering was performed by Skidmore, Owings, and Merrill of Chicago. Adrian Smith, who worked with Skidmore, Owings and Merrill until 2006, was the chief architect and Bill Baker was the chief structural engineer for the project.

Technical Details:
Floor count : 160 habitable floors plus 46 maintenance levels in the spire and 2 parking levels in the basement
Floor area : 334,000 m2 (3,595,100 sq ft)
Cost : $1.5 billion

  1. Whew! I could get to visit your (actually our) blog not before today. I am immensely impressed. Keep up the good work, dear!

As for claim for the tallest tower/building, I get confused when a few of the tallest towers are claimed to be coming from China (Beijing, for instance), which are not reflected anywhere in your (I don't know what is your source) depiction.

Try doing some more research if time permits you.

    Best,
